As Google goes into holiday code "lock-down," we can expect changes released on Google Wave to be few and far between for a couple of weeks. It's been nice to see new things like the "undo" feature, the persistence of the public account in contacts and other nice tweaks make their way into Wave in recent days, but a lot of the "heavy hitting" features that would change Wave from an interesting medium to an essential medium are still waiting to be added. Google Wave is a very flexible publishing medium, but that flexibility means that it's easy to lose track of the structure of your waves. You don't have to overdo it with providing some good structure to your waves - in fact, too much structure can turn people off and make them afraid to contribute to them - but there are some good basics to bear in mind when putting together your waves. Here's a short video showing some of my favorite techniques, followed by a summary of tips and tricks, and a discussion of the best ways you've found to structure your waves.

Here we are, about two months into the preview of Google Wave, and the Draft function for editing blips is still turned off. Obviously it was on at some point in its early development but today it's just a grayed-out checkbox option at the bottom of a blip being edited. It can't be that hard to turn this on, really; yes, you might get into some issues with buffering text locally, but that doesn't sound like a terribly difficult problem to solve. Why keep draft mode off?
